Mark Farmer, a leading advocate of the "Modern Methods of Construction" campaign, is stepping down as CEO of the consultancy firm Cast, which he founded 10 years ago.

He is moving away from day-to-day management to focus on his role on the board of directors, particularly in brand development and shaping the company's future marketing strategy.

The company also announced the opening of a new office in Edinburgh, which will be led by head of recruitment Chris Kerr, who is relocating to Scotland.

Cast advises developers, investors, and public authorities on improving project delivery efficiency, with a strong focus on modern construction methods, including modular construction.

Under a succession plan, a new CEO has been appointed from within the company — co-founder Joe Thornton.

Farmer said:

“Over the past 10 years, Cast has grown from a startup into a respected consultancy with an international reputation. The succession plan will underpin the next stage of growth and create new opportunities for our talented team. I’m proud of my role as co-founder and leader of this business and look forward to continuing to support its development by leveraging my industry position to help drive growth and diversification.”

Thornton added:

“We are a people-focused business, helping our clients deliver ambitious projects in an increasingly complex market. Over the years we’ve nurtured a range of outstanding professionals, and I’m excited to work with them on Cast’s next chapter.”

It was also announced that Chairman Keith Brooks will step down and take a creative sabbatical. The company plans to appoint a new independent chair in due course.

Mark Farmer, Joe Thornton, Chief Operating Officer Lilli Gallafent, and Chief Financial Officer Neil Brierley will remain co-owners of Cast.
